There is no doubt that all premier’s expect to do well in there initial outing, but then again if they didn’t then they probably wouldn’t stay around for long. Last night ABC premiered two of its new thirty minute comedies with Cavemen and then Carpoolers. And surprisingly Carpoolers brought in some good numbers being a lead in for ABC big gun, Dancing With the Stars. So how well did Carpoolers do? Here is what Media Life Magazine had to say:
“Carpoolers,” another new sitcom that tied with “Bones” at 8:30 with a 2.9.
Among 18-49s, “Carpoolers” averaged a 3.4 rating, which ABC was particularly pleased with. That show led into the results edition of “Dancing with the Stars,” likely giving it a boost.
CBS led the 8 p.m. hour with a 3.6 for “NCIS,” with ABC second with a 3.3 average for “Cavemen” (3.3) and “Carpoolers” (3.4). Fox was third with a 2.9 for “Bones,” NBC fourth with a 2.6 for the fall premiere of “The Singing Bee” (2.3) and the first half hour of “The Biggest Loser,” CW fifth with a 1.3 for “Beauty and the Geek” and Univision sixth with a 1.1 for “Amar sin Limites.”

So many have wondered how a show about four men carpooling to work would turn out. The Phil Collins preview may be one of the only sources of buzz for the show, but for the most part I think Carpoolers was more of a big question mark rather then a sure fire winner. So how did the Pilot episode go?
Carpoolers is a show that hits a special mark in my heart, having carpooled back in High School and now in College I have had my fair share of different groups. There is a certain sense of comrodary in a Carpool and that was something this show was trying to capture. In the Pilot of Carpoolers we learn about the four main characters, Laird, Aubrey, Gracen, and Dougie. The four are varied in style but for the most part we don’t learn a whole lot about the different characters.
I am not going to explain everything in the show, but instead describe it as a slapstick humor sort of show. The show reminded me of a concept that would work great as an hour and a half comedy movie rather then a whole sitcom. Obviously there is singing in the car, there is some humor, and of course when your in a car for a long period of time things can get heated. However Carpoolers although I mildly enjoyed the premiere, I just don’t know how long the diamond lane is going to be open for people to get in. There was just nothing overly enticing about the characters and it seemed just a bit off key. Maybe that’s just the premiere, but to me be quick run for the show if it doesn’t turn things around.

The National Post recently put out a list of there top ten new shows of 2007, and guess who made it on the list? You guessed it, Carpoolers has made there list at the #7 spot. Here is what the National Post had to say:
Carpoolers is not simply about four men living life in the fast lane. It’s a car ride like Lost is a plane ride. Perhaps a fifth of the pilot episode occurs on four wheels. What Carpoolers is, is a vehicle for a gentle exploration of the life of the middle-class male. Judging by the pilot, the suburban man is, in varying degrees, henpecked. At one extreme, Aubrey says the commute is the only good part of his life. At the other, Gracen is afraid to confront his wife about the $200 toaster she bought with “my money,” but when he finally “shares his feelings” with her, he is rewarded with understanding and sex (the wife is played by Faith Ford, from Murphy Brown).
Here is the rest of the list from the National Post if your interested! Remember tomorrow is the big premiere and make sure to check back here for a full review!
